BOSTON, February 29, 2012 – The Legends Tour, the Official Legends Tour of the LPGA, and the Judson Collegiate Invitational Foundation will join together this summer for the inaugural Judson Collegiate Invitational and Legends Tour Atlanta Pro-Am.
This unique and innovative golf event will feature 60 top college players competing alongside 30 LPGA Legends. Set for July 15-18, at the Country Club of Roswell in Roswell, Ga., the four-day tournament will include a Legends challenge event with a $120,000 purse for the professionals.
Thirty teams comprised of one professional, two collegiate players and two amateurs will compete together in a pro-am on Sunday, July 15, starting at 1 p.m.
The pro-am will be followed by a team (Pro/College) best-ball competition on Monday, July 16, in which Legends Tour professionals will compete for prize money in a stroke-play format while the college players will begin the first round of the collegiate stroke-play tournament.
The stroke-play event for collegiate players will continue on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 17-18.
“We are bringing together the future of women’s golf and the legends of the LPGA,” said Rosie Jones, now retired from the LPGA and a former collegian at Ohio State University. “It’s very exciting to come back to the Atlanta area to compete again, where there has been a long history in women’s golf, and we look forward to playing in front of those fans again while raising money for our official charity, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.”
The inaugural Judson Collegiate Invitational and Legends Tour Atlanta Pro-Am will headline LPGA Legends Rosie Jones, who lives in Atlanta, as well as Nancy Lopez, Betsy King, Pat Bradley, Amy Alcott, Jan Stephenson and Sherri Steinhauer. Top collegiate players and special invitees will comprise the amateur field.
The Judson Collegiate Invitational Foundation, Inc. (JCI Foundation, Inc.), a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation, was established in 2012. Lauren Judson, now a 20-year-old student and second year player on the University of Southern Mississippi’s women’s golf team, lost both of her parents in a private airplane accident in the fall of 2010. The Judson Invitational Foundation was established to honor the memory and philanthropic work of Lauren’s parents. The JCI Foundation, Inc. and its charities focus on children’s causes and on providing assistance to junior women golfers.
All ticket proceeds benefit Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Tickets will be available at the gate and online at www.thelegendstour.com. For additional event information, visit www.rosiejones.com.
